Côte d'Opale

August 15th, always a day off

and this year also a gorgeous day.

In the afternoon we decided

that this was not going to be

another day with just jobs in and

around the house that had to be done,

exactly what we had been doing all morning.

We jumped in our car and drove off,

across the border, into France,

along the beautiful coastal road,

"Route Nationale D940",

all the way to "Les deux Caps",

Cap Blanc Nez and Cap Gris Nez.

Since we never visited Wimereux before,

that became our final destination of the day.

Well, we had to return home again of course,

a normal working day awaiting us the day after.

Not the picturesque coastal road but

the highway brought us home.

Felt a bit like returning from vacation....

De vijftiende augustus,
altijd een vrije dag,
en dit jaar ook een heel mooie dag.
In de namiddag besloten we
dat deze dag niet zou opgaan
in allerlei werken in en om het huis
zoals we eigenlijk al de hele voormiddag bezig waren.
We namen de auto en reden de grens over,
Frankrijk binnen, en dan langs de nationale kustroute D940
naar Cap Blanc Nez en Cap Gris Nez en uiteindelijk
ook Wimereux dat we nooit eerder bezochten.
We reden door dorpjes als
Wissant (Wit Zand) en Sangatte (Zandgat),
duidelijk verfranste namen voor wat in een ver verleden Vlaamse dorpjes waren.

On the horizon of this and the following pictures you can see England,
the "White cliffs of Dover" to be exact.

The ferry going from Calais (Fr) to Dover (GB)
crossing the street of Dover,
the smallest part of the Channel.
The white spots on the field in front are seagulls.

with its "cabines de plage"
in front of some colourful Belle Epoque buildings.
