Our butterflies

Well yes, they've become a bit 'our' butterflies,
even if they fly off to wherever they want
and I wouldn't want to see it any other way.
So glad they survived here and are now able to fly into the world.

Remember the many caterpillars an after that pupa
we found all around the house against the walls and
even on the garage door?

Notice the small hole the butterfly must have come out of?

By now, most of the pupa are empty and the butterflies
have emerged from their little cocoons.
Last weekend I noticed a little hole in the pupa on
the garage door and only a thin empty shell was left.
Almost unbelievable a thin shell like that protected
a butterfly-to-be during a whole winter.

Today, I saw a butterfly sitting in a sheltered place
in a corner of the garage window.
I took a closer look and there was not only the butterfly
but also the little cocoon it must have come out of.
I hadn't even noticed before that there was a pupa hanging there.
The butterfly sat still, its wings closed. Could it be this butterfly had
only just emerged from its pupa? I really think so.
I went inside to grab the camera and took some pictures of course.
Although I didn't actually see the 'birth' itself,
I thought this was so special and wonderful.

Thought it would be appropriate to finish this post with
the butterfly quote from Rabindranath Tagore:

The butterfly counts not months
but moments,
and has time enough.
- Rabindranath Tagore

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Prettig weekend iedereen,

What's colouring your garden?

Computerproblems followed by health problems
kept me from blogging for quite a while.
I hope to pick up blogging again from today on and also
visit all your beautiful blogs again.

The February frost followed by the flood in March
has certainly had its effect on the garden.
Luckily though only the garden was flooded.

Today I decided to photograph the 'survivors'
bringing colour to our garden.

Many Frittilaria
and a lot of fresh green leaves
of Columbines.

Tiny Forget-me-nots
as blue dots in the border
among more Frittilaria.

A Summer Snowflake

and one single Tulip
coming to bloom.

So, now I wonder, what's colouring your garden at the time?

About my monthly contribution to 'first views'....
In the end I had to empty all remaining pots on the terras.
Eventually, none of the 'hidden' bulbs survived February 2012 I'm afraid.
So the blooming container garden I had in mind for April and May
has not come true. Only empty pots in april.

Last but not least I want to
thank you all so very much for your lovely comments
and kind words.

Bye,
Marian
